TOWN Clubs of Victoria was started in Melbourne in 1968 by two Melbourne women who based the first club on the pattern of an American weight loss organisation. Over recent years the number of clubs has grown to 75 with several more being developed, and at present we have approximately 3,500 members.

TOWN Clubs is one club with many venues, run with similar formats, reporting to zones who make up the Central Council which is the governing body of the affiliated clubs. Annual competition between the clubs encourages weight loss and increases the network of support.

TOWN is a non-profit organisation, run by volunteers who are willing to work and promote weight loss for men, women and young people, while at the same time striving to achieve their own weight loss goals. The day and evening clubs are low cost, relaxed, friendly and offer support, ideas and stimulation to reach and maintain a realistic weight. The full meeting takes between just one and two hours per week.

To join TOWN, a person must be over 14 years of age, provide a doctor’s letter advising the prospective member’s ideal goal weight. A commitment must be given for regular attendance at full meetings as well as every effort being made to achieve weight loss. A TOWN feature is the monthly award night when members are rewarded for weight loss and gainers are encouraged to try again.
